Message I have been doing a lot of research on here and other sites about coilovers. I have decided to go with a coilover setup instead of my initial decision of KYB/Eibach's despite reading this article "Fully-Adjustable Coilover Suspension for the street?", which is a good read if anyone is toying with the idea of using coilovers. The main reason being the adjustability of the ride height and the ability to fine tune dampening.

I mainly drive my z on the streets as a semi-daily driver, but will be doing a few auto-cross events when I feel my suspension is up to par...plus I love hitting the twisties. I am fully aware of how harsh the ride will be, and look forward to it. I am also aware of having to get the car corner balanced and such as well, although I don't believe that it cost $2k to do it as the above link mentions. I want a sports car, not a cadillac. That's how I see it.

Anyhow, with that being said I have limited it down to a few different options:

1.)Tein SS Coilover w/EDFC: ~$1250
Tein SS

2.)Tein Flex Coilover w/EDFC: ~$1650
Tein Flex

From what I have read on Tein's website, it seems like I would be able to adjust the ride height without having to go back to have the corner balancing redone with the Flex setup due to their Full Length Adjustability:

"Vehicle ride height and spring pre-load can be adjusted independently. Ride height is adjustable in two ways: a. adjustable shock length, and b. adjustable spring seat.
a. The lower mounting bracket can be adjusted, thus changing the overall length of the shock, and therefore altering the vehicle's ride height. This also allows the user to determine suspension travel and droop.
b. The adjustable spring seat allows for independent adjustment of spring pre-load without affecting vehicle ride height.

Aluminum spring seats are utilized to reduce ceasing of spring seat to threaded body, and for improved durability. "

^^Taken from Tein's website^^

It seems that this would be a good route to go to avoid getting them corner balanced everytime I mess with the ride height. I am guessing the Tein SS and SPL coilover setup will need to be corner balanced each time I mess with it.

I know the EDFC is probably overkill, but I just think it is neat how it can be switched on the fly. Especially when there is more than just two settings.

3.)SPL Coilovers: ~$1095
SPL Coilovers

The point of this post is this...given that my car will mainly see the streets, which of the three do you guys think will adequately serve my purpose. I mainly want to know from the people that run these setups how they like them? Opinions and experiences with these coilovers will be greatly appreciated. I also understand that there is lots of info in the search function...trust me I just finished doing that for the last 6 hours(front desk job=8hrs of internet)...but I am looking for some up to date opinions/experiences. I read a couple of posts back around 00-02 and alot of people seemed to feel coilovers where strictly for racing. Seems development has come a long ways in a few years. Now, most people run them it seems.

BTW..I know this is pretty much a noob question, but if I use coilovers do I need the full rubber gaskets/bushings set that Coz sells? I am pretty sure I know the answer to this, but I had to ask for clarification. If no, then it is almost pointless to go with KYB/Eibach because after you buy shocks, struts, camber compensation kit, and the bushings/gaskets kit you are practically pushing $1,000.....SPL's are only $1,095. I guess it is good to go the KYB route if you want minimum adjustability and piece of mind. To each their own I guess.

Sorry for the life story, I appreciate any help.

Another good read if anyone is interested.... "Making It Stick".

Admins...sorry if this is in the wrong forum. I couldn't decide if it was general or technical. I didn't figure it was a technical question. Feel free to move if necessary.
